マイノリティーについて描き、2017年に出版された小説『半端者』の映画化は困難を極めた。当初、制作を請け負う会社が見つからなかったが、2019年8月、制作会社アウトサイドと出会う。幾度の協議を重ねた結果、600ページに及ぶ原作をスリム化した脚本を作成。
ロケ地やキャストも決定し、いざ撮影という2020年4月、新型コロナウイルス蔓延による緊急事態宣言が発出され、制作中断を余儀なくされる。
様々な障害を乗り越えた末、ついに2023年4月より制作を再開、同年10月にクランクアップ。ポスト･プロダクションを経て、2025年完成。 一般劇場での公開を模索している。
【Production Notes】
The journey of adapting the 2017 novel Creep (Hampa-Mono in Japanese), which explores themes of minority identity, into a film was fraught with challenges. Initially, no production company was willing to take on the project. However, in August 2019, a collaboration was established with the production company Outside. After numerous discussions, a streamlined screenplay was developed from the 600-page novel.
With filming locations and cast finalized, production was set to begin in April 2020. However, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the declaration of a state of emergency forced the project into an indefinite suspension.
Overcoming numerous obstacles, production finally resumed in April 2023 and wrapped in October of the same year. Following post-production, the film was completed in 2025. A general theatrical release is currently being explored.
