2017年、著者のたっての願いにより自費出版された同名小説。ベースとなっているのは、社会に居場所を見出せなかった少年の物語である。
昨今､よく飛び交うようになった【LGBT】という言葉だが、いささか一人歩きしているようにも感じる。この言葉は、あくまで性的マイノリティの総称でしかない。本作の主人公は「G」にあたるゲイ、つまり男性の同性愛者である。
昨今、ゲイに関する作品は増えている。オネエ（女性らしさを前面に出すもの）やドラァグクイーン（女装パフォーマー）を描いたもの、女性向けのファンタジー「B L」、一般的に受け入れやすいコメディ、あるいは道徳的・啓発的要素の強い作品が多い。
小説『半端者』は、そのような画一化された描き方ではなく、人間の本質を捉えることに重点を置いている。また、社会的認知が進みつつある〈性的指向〉という「正しさ」を説くのではなく、様々な形で備わっている個々人の〈嗜好〉についても、目を背けず描いている。

Published in 2017 as a self-funded project at the author’s strong insistence, the novel Creep (Hampa-Mono in Japanese) tells the story of a boy struggling to find his place in society.
In recent years, the term LGBT has gained widespread recognition, but it seems to have taken on a life of its own. At its core, it is merely an umbrella term for sexual minorities. The protagonist of this story identifies as “G”—a gay man.
There has been a notable increase in works addressing gay themes. Many depict onē (effeminate men) or drag queens (performers in women’s clothing), cater to female audiences through the fantasy-driven genre of BL (Boys’ Love), lean toward easily digestible comedies, or carry strong moralistic or educational overtones.
Unlike these conventional portrayals, the novel Creep focuses on the essence of humanity rather than conforming to a standardized narrative.
It does not attempt to advocate for the social "correctness" of sexual orientation, but instead, it unflinchingly explores the diverse and often overlooked realm of sexual preferences — an aspect of human nature that exists in many forms yet is rarely discussed.
